Vancouver International Airport Information

Vancouver International Airport (IATA Code: YVR), Canada's second busiest airport, can be found on Sea Island in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. It is about 12km from downtown Vancouver, and there is a Rail Rapid Transit Line from city to airport. It has won the Skytrax 'Best North American Airport' award twice, and is one of the 8 canadian airports with US border preclearance facilities. Due to the location of Vancouver on the west coast, Vancouver Airport is the major gateway between Canada and Asia. The city of Vancouver purchased land on Sea Island for Aviation purposes in 1929 after Charles Lindbergh refused to include Vancouver in his North American Tour because there was no proper airport. During World War 2 the airport was leased to the government and was a training facility for the Royal Canadian Air Force. The current terminal was completed in 1968, and since then it has been expanded into Domestic and International terminals. There are currently 3 terminals in use at the airport- Domestic, International and South.
